FAQS

1 - Which 3D applications are supported by Fastrender Farm?

Maxwell Render v3.2 is the first application to be supported, as all the plug-ins of 3D packages that have a maxwell plug-in available so it  can export to .mxs file (maxwell render native file)

That means you'll have more time to use your creativity while using your computer, without worrying about the rendering process. It will worth your money for sure!

3 - How should i prepare my files to be uploaded?

For Maxwel Render

It is very important that you follow exactly the following protocol:

  • Please check before uploading your scene that you saved it with all parameters you wanted. The file will be rendered exactly as sent. We don't change any kind of parameters.
  • Before uploading your file to the fastrender farm, reload it on your computer and start a render from Maxwell Render (NOT from Maxwell Studio) at full resolution for a few minutes, just to check that everything is all right and that your scene does not cause a crash or other potential problem. Some errors – 'triangles without material' for instance - are not caught when rendering from MS, but they crash MR.
  • Try to avoid strange characters (non-alphanumeric), apostrophes, etc in the filenames of your project (scene file, textures, objects, etc.).

Rendering still images with Maxwell Render

  • If you wish to render still images, create a folder with the name of the project and inside put your .mxs file and all the textures you used in the project. You must do that by opening your .mxs file in Maxwell Studio, then select File>Pack and go. Zip your folder and upload your it via our wetransfer channel with proper identification.
  • On the tasks area of our website, select which cameras do you want ro render, ex: All, or the names of the cameras if not all.

Rendering animations with Maxwell Render

  • Create your animation in your main 3D application (C4D, 3DS Max, ArchiCAD etc...). In the Maxwellplugin, choose the 'Write MXS' option. The Maxwell plugin will then generate as many MXS files as there are frames in the animation. Copy all these MXS scenes in a new directory (create a new folder for that) that you will use to store all your project's files. Let's call it FOLDER1 in our example (but you can give it the name you want, with only letters and numbers –no spaces or special characters).
  • Now, you need to join in one folder (as in the still images option) all the external files needed by your project (textures, etc.).To do this, open one of the generated MXS scenes (frames) in Maxwell Studio, and use the"Pack'n'Go" function to write all the external files found to another directory (NOT your project directory with all the MXS). Let's call this second directory FOLDER2
  • Copy all the files in FOLDER2 to FOLDER1, except the lone MXS scene which has been created in FOLDER2 by the Pack'n'Go function. After this operation, all the necessary files are in FOLDER1 (all the MXS files + all required external files, textures, etc.)
  • Zip your folder and upload it via our wetransfer channel with proper identification

Rendering strategy with Maxwell Render

When using Maxwell there are two options concerning final render: choosing a maximum render time limit (in minutes) or a maximum Sampling Level (SL), depending on your preferences. If you have a strict deadline, you will probably need to get the best quality possible image in a limited time. Example: if you have around two hours you can enter "120" in the "Render phase time limit" field and 30 in the"Sampling Level" field. The render phase will then be interrupted after 2 hours, or after a sampling level of 30 is reached (which is not likely ).

Another strategy: if you wish a determined sampling level of N (for instance N=15), which you consider necessary and sufficient for your needs. In that case you could enter 300 minutes (the maximum time authorized) and 15 in the SL field (to be sure time does not finish before SL). The render will then stop when the desired SL is reached. You must always use this strategy when you render an animation, to ensure that all frames are of the same quality. (reached the same SL, or the same lever of "noise")

Our NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement), will handle your files with utmost discretion and respect the confidentiality of all information received.

4 - How do i upload my files?

In the tasks menu you must create a task and add a title/name. Then in the table (below the title column) you must press the upload link that directs you to https://fastrenderfarm.wetransfer.com/.

Start uploading your file adding one file per task. The upload must be sent to support@fastrender.farm. Don't forget to add the task ID# and your email in the Wetransfer message box, so we can identify you.

After the upload we will receive your file and validate it. The task status (in the tasks column) will then change from "waiting file upload" to "rendering in progress", if credits are available.

5 - How can i have negative render credits in my account?

When you submit a job to render, it will be distributed by several machines available. During the render/animation calculation you will be charged by the render time previewed in our control machines. Those credits will be automatically deleted in your account, but the final cost of the render will be only known in the end of the task. So you may see your account reviewed, for both positive or negative points, during the task. You will only be sure (and we too) of the final rendering time spent in the end.

For Maxwell Render, as unbiased render, there is no need to wait till the end to know the cost if your render time finishes before it reach the SL wanted. The opposite will be only known in the end (if you wish to reach a SL number despite the rendering time.

Don't worry we will not stop rendering your scene if you run out of credits. We will render it till the end and send you a message to buy more credits and be able to donwload the files in the end.

6 - How much my render/animation will cost?

No one knows. It really depends of your file size, the complexity of objects and materials and the size and settings of your final rendering. We recommend you to use our cost calculator, so you can have an idea of the amount of credits involved.

7 - Why am I not receiving immediate feedback on my question/task?

Our management team is available to support you during GMT/CET normal work time ( 8AM to 11PM, of course the render farm is working 24 hours a day, 365 days per year). We commit to answer your questions/tasks in 2 hours or less during that time. After those hours a remote support team will be available. If you submitt a file outside GMT/CET work hours, you'll have to wait a little for your answer or your task to start.

8 - Can I resume rendering a Maxwell Render file if I want to increase the SL in a file previously rendered in Fast Render Farm?

Yes, you can. If the file was rendered with us in the two previous weeks you just have to create a new task and send us an email to support@fastrender.farm telling us to resume rendering from the original .mxs file & .mxi file. If more than two weeks have passed you just have to send us your original .mxs file and the .mxi file that we sent you from the original render. Remember that Fast Render Farm always sends to their users a download link with the .mxi file at the end of each task.

9 - I need the .mxi file. What should I do?

Well, nothing..:) The download link that we send at the end of the task always includes the .mxi file!

10 - Why VAT is on my checkout?

If you are a costumer from outside European Union you don´t have to pay this tax. If you are a costumer from European Union an have a valid VAT (as a company should have) you will not pay VAT.

If you work as an individual in European Union to companies that have multiple delegations placed around the world, it will be cheaper for you to use one outside Europe to buy the credits as VAT is not applied. Otherwise, if you have a EU address, the VAT will be charged.

11 - Where is my invoice?

Our invoices are issued in the last day of each month and contain all the payments made by the user during that month. The invoice will be sent by email in .pdf format.

12 - Can I rent some of your render nodes for unlimited rendering?

Yes you can!

- Brand new Dual Xeon E5-2630 v4 (2 x 10 core) nodes with 32 GB of RAM (2728 score in Cinebench R15)

- 5 nodes for one week (7 full days) - EUR 995 / USD 1120

- 10 nodes for one week (7 full days) - EUR 1890 / USD 2130
